Buying Agricultural Irrigation Hose From China: FOB Checklist

Buying irrigation hose from China is not only a price comparison. Diameter, pressure class, wall thickness, roll length, packaging and fittings can change the landed cost and the performance of the finished product. A precise FOB enquiry reduces revisions and makes supplier quotes comparable.

Key takeaways

  • Quote the same technical specification to every supplier.
  • Approve a sample and a packing standard before bulk production.
  • Plan roll diameter, pallet method and container loading with the supplier.
  • Define inspection, documents and Incoterms in the purchase order.

1. Write a Quote-Ready Specification

A useful hose RFQ should include the product type, inside diameter, working pressure, roll length, colour, wall thickness or duty class, connection standard, printing requirements and expected order quantity. For irrigation projects, also state the pump outlet, total head and water condition.

If the hose must meet a local standard or tender clause, attach the relevant document. Avoid using only a product nickname, because terms such as “layflat”, “high pressure” and “suction hose” cover several constructions.

  • Product family and intended application
  • ID, pressure class, roll length and acceptable tolerance
  • Couplings, threads and gasket material
  • Printing, colour, retail packing and label language
  • Destination port, target shipment date and order quantity

2. Compare Samples and Test Data

Ask for a cut sample or a short roll from the proposed production line. Check the bore, wall consistency, reinforcement, coupling fit and coil appearance. For pressure hose, request the working pressure, burst pressure and test conditions rather than a marketing description alone.

If the hose will carry chemicals, fuel or hot water, provide the media and temperature before sampling. A general-purpose irrigation hose is not automatically suitable for those duties.

3. Agree on Packaging and Container Loading

Layflat hose is bulky but can be packed efficiently when roll length and coil diameter are planned. Ask for the packed roll diameter, height, weight, number of rolls per bundle and expected container quantity. Confirm whether the goods will be palletised, bagged, labelled or packed for retail.

A lower price per metre can disappear if the packaging wastes container space. The supplier should provide a loading plan based on the exact roll and carton dimensions.

4. Set Inspection and Documentation

The purchase order should define the inspection points: visual appearance, dimensions, roll length, pressure test where applicable, coupling fit, printing and packing count. A pre-shipment photo report and loading record are useful even when a third-party inspection is not requested.

Confirm the commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin and test reports required by your customs broker. Check whether legalisation, translation or destination-specific certification is needed.

5. Understand FOB, CIF and Your Landed Cost

FOB means the supplier delivers the goods on board the vessel at the named Chinese port. The buyer normally controls the main freight and insurance after that point. CIF includes cost, insurance and freight to the destination port, but it does not include import clearance, duties or local delivery.

Compare offers on the same Incoterm, port, packaging and payment terms. Add local port charges, customs clearance, inland transport and currency costs to calculate the real landed cost.

Frequently asked questions

What information should be in an irrigation hose RFQ?

Include the application, inside diameter, working pressure, roll length, colour, wall or duty class, couplings, packing, quantity and destination. A photo or drawing of the existing hose also helps.

Should I ask for FOB or CIF prices?

Ask for both when possible. FOB gives a clear factory-plus-port price for comparing suppliers, while CIF can help if you want the supplier to arrange main freight. Check exactly which charges each quote includes.

How do I verify a hose before the container ships?

Approve the specification and sample first, then define dimensional, pressure, printing, coupling and packing checks. Request pre-shipment photos and a loading record, or arrange third-party inspection for larger or high-risk orders.

Need help matching a hose to your pump or project?

Send the hose type, inside diameter, working pressure, roll length, coupling standard and destination. Yongli can recommend a suitable construction and prepare an FOB quotation.
